| Since I started training in the martial arts eons ago, I've always heard about Tai Chi and have seen them in movies...people doing Tai Chi in parks and stuff. But I really haven't meet a lot of people who practice them. I haven't seen people doing Tai Chi either. Yoga seems more popular, but it is not a form of martial arts...but is Tai Chi really a form of Martial Arts?

The day I see a Full Contact Tai Chi tournament is the day I believed that the Oakland Raiders will be returning to Los Angeles.

| Good question. I don't really know the true answer to that, but I would guess that is a form of martial arts...but not a fighting one. Uhm... but if it's not a fighting style, is it martial arts? Ok, I guess I answered my own confused state of mind...my final answer is No, although some might argue.

Prince Loeffler (2/10/2006) Jokes aside, anything that can benefit you mentally, physically and emotionally regarless of the "style" can still be construed as martial arts.My eating style makes makes me feel great (emotionally) and feel energized (physically) which makes me feel confident (mentally). The above statement, of course, does not mean it's a form of martial arts. A martial art is a form of fighting or self-defense.
"Karate is a form of martial arts in which people who have had years and years of training can, using only their hands and feet, make some of the worst movies in the history of the world." -- Dave Barry

| It is my belief that T'ai Chi Chuan is a martial art, just not one you will see in tournament form, since it is an internal art. In this country, it is much more popular than you might realize, with hundreds of schools, shelves of books, and even resort vacations dedicated to the practice. Be always aware that things which do not initially apply to martial arts may actually fit very well. Samurai in the Tokugawa period made that mistake, and during farmer uprisings, rice threshers became nunchaku, and the rice planter became the sai. One more example: I reach to shake your hand. You extend your hand, shifting your weight to your right leg, over your center of gravity. I just threw you.

i have inmovable confadance in thi chi as a martial art, it just takes many years to be able to use it in combat. there are countles benifets to health and martial arts skill. i conceder my style to be a kung fu thi chi conglomeration. thi chi can teach you to control ad deflect your aponents atack, stay calm in battle , you can use the rederection of energy to throw your aponit or or hurt them. i have come up with a move in the checken style that will breack your aponents arm in two places with very little effort and i dont have to hit them once just by rederecting the energy of thier punch moving out of the way of the attack and reversing the momentum ito their arem bending it in ways that arms dont lol
