Just curious....
I went to a tournament and I've been seing some black belts who seem to have a skill level equivalent of an intermediate skill level (green/blue belt). Do you think they got their black belts because they been in school for too long and the instructor felt sorry for them or because the instructor needed additional cash flow for that month?

Well, there are many reasons that pervades this astrocity. Often times many of the blames falls in greed and Egos. Many are ranked based upon how much money they have. I have seen often too many so called high ranking black belts who cannot seems to fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Being in the Dojo is a different from actually training in the dojo. I have seen people being in the dojo and "training" because they have nothing else better to do.

Black Belts do not have the same meaning as they used to. Although most black belts still go through the hard dedicated training, there are some black belts out there that recieved their rank because they are 1) friends with the instructor 2) have money 3) been loyal to the school and 4) been in the school for years.
Of course some black belts, I'm sure, used to be very good. But after years of non-training, age, and diet, they loss the skill and stamina. Then they decide to get back into it still representing the black belt rank--which makes it look really bad. I think this is why there's a lot of confusion also on black belt's skill.

Black belts are human too! They get out of shape, out of practice, loss flexibility, train less due other commitment, etc.Not everyone can dedicate at least 3 hours a week in the dojo.

No we are not !!!! pretty funny. I know that once you lay off for at least a year, it takes a little while to come back (depends on your age). Black belts are not humans...I know! I watch chinese kung fu movies!

It's part of running a commercial program. Not everyone is the A-1 student. Back in the day.....god......only the macho hot shots were the Dans, now days you have ADD kids, moms, people of all shapes-sizes-and mental abilities training. Eventually, they make Black Belt. Wachagoingtodo? ;)
