Traditional vs MMA

I'm more of a traditional martial artist but LOVE watching and learning MMA. I only compete in open tournaments and I really enjoy it. I do not compete in full contact kumite or MMA.

Here's the situation:

Talking to some traditionalist, they consider MMA a brutal sport and they don't like it. On the flip side, people in MMA make fun of traditionalist because they are weak, not practical, and compete in wussy contact point tournaments.

I'll leave it that and would like to know what you think.

The AAU Karate Tournaments are run efficiently, objectively & respectfully, worthy of the ‘traditional martial arts way’. There are local, State, Regional & National tournaments. The competitors must qualify to move up. The officials are tested & rated to insure the best quality judging. Sensei Tom O’Brien from the Ronin Martial Arts Club located in Suffern, NY (upstate NY) won gold medals in kata & kobudo at the last tournament held at Hawthorne HS in Hawthorne, NJ on 9/10/06. If you want your kids to compete & get a fair shake, join the AAU.

Skilled Black Belts?

Just curious....I went to a tournament and I've been seing some black belts who seem to have a skill level equivalent of an intermediate skill level (green/blue belt). Do you think they got their black belts because they been in school for too long and the instructor felt sorry for them or because the instructor needed additional cash flow for that month?

How do you guys feel about these organizations that look valid but gives you a black belt certificate with their association's logo for $100 or so? They say an existing certificate is required but as long as you pay, even with no proof of rank, you'll get it.

I won't name the organizations but I'm sure you've heard of them.
