I ask this because I've noticed the there seems to be a difference between TMA fighters, MMA fighters and sport TKD fighters (WTF, Olympic style)

I was at a Superfoot seminar not to long ago, and he was half and half; ran us through some boxing style ducks and counters, or would simply move out of the way.  The WTF Olympic stylests seem to have there hands down all the time, they don't block just get out of the way.  And the MMA crowd (Pride, UFC) are in guard all the time, and if they are not...instant dog meat!

I am a ITF/ATA TMA fighter and tend to keep my hands up.

I've trained in free style tae kwon do.  And my hands are mix, more like Superfoot Wallace.  My hands are usually in an x pattern switching hands back and forth (front hand up and right hand down  or front hand down and right hand up - right fighting stance in this case)

I've also trained for a little while in WTF.  Keep in mind that their style is based on WTF competition so their hands are down and don't fear hand techniques since it rarely happens...if at all.
